Overall, the Worldwide Purpose-Built Backup Appliance (PBBA) Market is on exciting curve with an interesting growth that shakes up the entire industry with key vendors like EMC, Veritas, HPE and IBM and Dell.
According to IDC, the worldwide purpose-built backup appliance
(PBBA) factory revenues grew 6.2% year over year totaling $762.2 million in the
first quarter of 2016 (1Q16).
The firm also reveals that, total worldwide Purpose-Built Backup Appliance (PBBA)
capacity shipped in 1Q16 reached 886 petabytes, an increase of 39.7% from a
year ago.
"PBBA software revenue
saw double-digit growth year over year while the value from storage hardware
remained flat’’, said Liz Conner, research manager, Storage Systems.
EMC maintained its lead in the overall PBBA market with 56.0% revenue share
during the quarter, followed by Veritas
with 18.2% share. HPE and IBM tied
for the third position in 1Q16 with 4.5% and 3.9% market share, respectively. Dell maintained the number 5 PBBA
vendor position with a 3.2% share of the worldwide market.
