Stakes and challenges related to style, fashion and functionality, design, fitness, brand recognition and distribution, user refresh, user experience and telco channel, applications are at the core the Worldwide Smartwatch Market.
Henceforth vendors need to appropriate these game-changer
realities.
During the Second Quarter of 2016 data from IDC Wearable Device
Tracker reveals that, Smartwatch vendors
shipped 3.5 million units in the second quarter of 2016 (2Q16), which was down
substantially from the 5.1 million shipped a year ago.
One can also observe that, Apple held the top rank by shipping 1.6
million watches. Apple was the only vendor among the top 5 to experience an
annual decline in shipments. Apple still maintains a significant lead in the
market.
A decline for Apple leads to a decline in the entire market. The
smartwatch market is witnessing the absence of traditional watchmaker brands
among the leading vendors.
Traditional watchmaker brands like Casio, Fossil, and Tag Heuer have launched
their own models to the market.
Apple, Samsung, Lenovo, LG Electronics, Garmin are top five vendors.
NB: Data only includes smartwatches capable of running third party
applications on the device itself.
