In Western Europe Utilities are progressively aware of this impetus and more and more optimistic and ambitious; beyond a set of uncertainty about the business outlook.

According to IDC, across Western Europe, utilities for the next 12 months will allocate approximately 55% of their IT budgets to maintain/run/compliance activities, while the remainder will be allocated to innovation and growth activities.
Over 40% of utilities across Western Europe plan to increase their external IT spending over the next 12 months. 

Western European utilities still expect almost three-fourths of IT spending to be controlled by their IT departments. 

Western European utilities indicate that for the next 12 months, their leading business initiatives will include information security and data protection. 

Data loss and leakage prevention, mobile device security, and cloud security identified as their top 3 information security priorities for the next 12 months.
